Preparation of the System Plans for Protected Areas for Antigua and Barbuda OECS Protected Areas and Associated Livelihoods (OPAAL) Project

EAI conducted a working inception meeting between the OECS-ESDU, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) , and the National Implementation Coordinating Entity (NICE) for OPAAL (i.e. the Fisheries Division) and the Department of Environment (National Technical Focal Point for EDSU). EAI reviewed the process for the conduct of the research, determined roles and responsibilities, discussed the basis on which this assignment will be implemented, and finalized the draft work plan, which guided the process undertaken. For this project, EAI also conducted a review and analysis of relevant documentation and background information which included international best practices for Systems Planning and other relevant information pertaining to systems planning for protected areas in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and commitments to relevant multilateral agreements. Finally, EAI submitted a finalized Systems Plan and draft Cabinet memo to EDSU, through the NICE, having incorporated feedback from the NTAC and other key national agencies.
